Beat a Chess Master

Join us all day on August 13 to try and beat our resident master NCM Brandon Zhu.

Aside from his academic achievements, Brandon has a great passion for chess. He is a BC Junior Chess Champion in 2016 and 2018, Canadian Youth Championship Under 18 Champion in 2018, and a Canadian Representative at the World Youth Chess Championship in 2017 and 2018. He has also competed in the latest Canadian Open 2023, defeating an IM,FM and NM on the way to achieve a score of 6 out of 10.

Brandon has also contributed significantly to the chess community. He is the current President of SFU Chess Club and serves as an Arbiter and Video Director for the Vancity Chess YouTube channel. He has also earned the title of National Candidate Master.

Casual Drop-in Chess

Players of all ages and skill levels are welcome to drop by and play casual chess all day on August 12 and August 13! As always, we provide all the chess sets and clocks, so you just need to show up ready to play.
