Each round consists of one game. You can register as a team or register individually. Please specify partner name upon registration; players will be assigned a partner if not specified before round 1.
Rounds: 6 rounds Swiss format
- Round 1 at 5:00 PM
- Round 2 at 5:30 PM or ASAP
- Round 3 at 6:00 PM or ASAP
- Round 4 at 6:30 PM or ASAP
- Round 5 at 7:00 PM or ASAP
- Round 6 at 7:30 PM or ASAP
Time format: 5 min NO increment
Rated: Unrated
Sections:
Players under 14 may choose to play in the U18 section if they wish.
- U18 Open - Born after July 11, 2007
- U14 Open - Born after July 11, 2011
Prizes: Trophies for 1st and 2nd teams in each section
Entry Fee:
- $40 per team ($20 per person)
- $20 for individual registration (partner will be assigned)
Bughouse is a popular chess variant played between two teams of two players. Each team member plays on a separate board, and captured pieces from one board can be passed to the teammate and placed on their board. It's a fast-paced, exciting format that emphasizes teamwork and quick thinking!
This is an unrated fun event - no CFC membership required.

- You may request a full refund before registration closes
Registration
- Teams may register together or individuals may register and be paired before round 1
- We reserve the right to move teams to the appropriate section based on their age
Byes
- No byes allowed
Playing Area
- No food in the playing area
- Silence is required in the playing area while games are in progress
Fair Play
- It is a serious offence to receive outside help (beyond your teammate)
- Players are not to have electronic devices such as cell phones in their possession when their games are in progress (whether turned on or not)
- Electronic devices may be stored in a bag under the table or placed on the table
- Standard bughouse rules apply - pieces may only be passed between teammates
Photo & Video
- Vancity Chess may film certain games throughout the event. We always ask players involved for their permission.
- Photos by spectators are allowed for the first 5 minutes of each round, but please be discrete and respectful to not disturb players
Tiebreaks
- Tiebreak for trophies decided by:
- Head-to-head score of tied teams
- Cumulative score of opponents (opens new window)
- Playoff games if time permits
