Rounds: 7 rounds Swiss format

• Round 1 at 6:30 PM
• Round 2 at 6:50 PM or ASAP
• Round 3 at 7:10 PM or ASAP
• Round 4 at 7:30 PM or ASAP
• Round 5 at 7:50 PM or ASAP
• Round 6 at 8:10 PM or ASAP
• Round 7 at 8:30 PM or ASAP

Time format: 3 min + 2 sec/move increment

Rated: CFC Quick Rated

An active CFC membership is required to play in this event.

Sections:

Players under 14 may choose to play in the U18 section if they wish.

About CFC Membership

The CFC (Canadian Chess Federation) represents Canada to the world as a member of FIDE, the international chess body. As a CFC member, you have access to all CFC rated events across Canada, and will obtain national CFC chess ratings.

There are two types of CFC ratings: Regular, and Quick. Long story short, all tournaments with long games (60+ min per player) use your CFC regular rating. Tournaments with shorter games (< 60 min per player) use your CFC quick rating. They are different ratings and do NOT overlap.

• We reserve the right to move players to the appropriate section based on their CFC rating

Byes

• No byes allowed

Playing Area

• No food in the playing area
• Silence is required in the playing area while games are in progress

Fair Play

• It is a serious offence to receive outside help
• Players are not to have electronic devices such as cell phones in their possession when their games are in progress (whether turned on or not )
• Electronic devices may be stored in a bag under the table or placed on the table
• Players are forbidden to leave the playing area when it is their move
• It is forbidden to discuss your game with anyone until it is over, or any other game in progress with one of the players involved

Photo & Video

• Vancity Chess may film certain games throughout the event. We always ask players involved for their permission.
• Photos by spectators are allowed for the first 5 minutes of each round, but please be discrete and respectful to not disturb players

Tiebreaks

• Tiebreak for non-cash prizes decided by:
  1. Head-to-head score of tied players
  2. Cumulative score of opponents (opens new window)
  3. Armageddon Blitz (opens new window) 5|4
